Taking One For The Team

Everybody likes to be appreciated. In relationships and at work. Maybe today you weren't told, "I value you." Maybe you weren't given an award for your contributions, but Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals, and devout Christian, got one. He was named MVP of the National League for the second straight year. This is his third MVP title in five years. We'll give you time to catch up.

Sometimes not being reminded of your worth is a punch in the face. Sometimes it's not a metaphor.  Ask Notre Dame "hotshot" quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who is sporting a black eye after getting pummeled when returning to a pub to fetch his girlfriend's purse she left behind. The lesson here, ladies, if you want to protect your man, always carry an "it" bag. Nobody leaves a Louis in the corner. Nobody.

On a sad note, the NBA world is mourning the loss of Abe Pollin, the late owner of the Washington Wizards. Polin was a "good guy" in the league, perhaps best known for telling Michael Jordan thanks but no thanks, during Jordan's midlife crisis stint with the team.  Pollin was suffering from numerous health problems.
